About SCIHN: Why the Need

Every night there are approximately 300 homeless people in Sussex County. The average age of a homeless person is 9 years old; over half of our guests are children. There are several main causes of homelessness.

• A job loss, a rent increase, an illness or accident can spiral quickly into the loss of a home
• A shrinking number of available and affordable rental units
• A dramatic reduction of federal rent subsidies
• Family strife such as domestic violence, divorce or unwed pregnancy
